Ernest “Ernie” George Kuhn Jr., 92, of Sebring, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, December 10,2024. He was born on October 5, 1932, in St. Augustine, Florida to Ernest George Kuhn Sr., and Miriam Louise Ingle. Ernie grew up in St. Augustine and graduated from Ketterlinus High School in 1950. After high school, he joined the National Guard and then went full-time with the Army in 1953. He was stationed at Cooke Barracks in Goppingen, Germany, where he fell in love with the country and the people. After his service he attended Arizona State University on the G.I.Bill and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Ernie moved to Sebring in 1956 and was very involved in the community. He was a letter carrier for 30 years, a past commander of VFW Post4300 and a life-long member of Elks Lodge 1529.
Ernie was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sandra Eggerstedt Kuhn. They were married for 44 years and enjoyed living on their peaceful farm where family loved to gather. He is survived by his son, Jeff (Claudia) Kuhn, daughter Julie (John) Mixon, four grandchildren, Kayla(Kyle) Hepler, Jeffrey Mixon, Sofia Kuhn and Alexander Kuhn, and two great-grandchildren, Makenizie and Kayden Hepler. He is also survived by his two beloved sisters, Betty (Dick Landers) Burroughs and Ailene (Ed) Dixon, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his dear friends at Fellowship Home on the Fairway.
Ernie loved history and was an avid reader, especially of World War II. He also loved to travel and saw much of the world. He was a loyal fan of the Florida Gators and enjoyed going to football and baseball games with family. Ernie also enjoyed playing and watching golf and snow skiing with his wife Sandy. One of his greatest passions was music. He loved listening to his extensive collection of music, singing and dancing with his wife.
A memorial service will be held at Morris Funeral Chapel, 307 S. Commerce Avenue, Sebring,Florida, on Saturday, January 11, 2025 with visitation at 10AM and the service at 11AM.
