Ernest A. Simpson, "Ernie", 73, of Port Saint Lucie, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in 1951 to the late Ernest and Gertrude (Coughlin) Simpson, Ernie was a 1969 graduate of Medfield High School, MA, where he played football and was a member of the track team. Ernie was an avid New England sports fan, watching the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins at every opportunity.
Ernie served his country in the Navy for four years, with a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon his return, Ernie became a mail carrier, working for 35 years for the US Postal Service in his hometown of Medfield, where he was well-known and beloved by all.
Ernie was a proud member of the American Legion in Medfield and enjoyed playing horseshoes with them.
Ernie loved to golf, bowl, and learned to enjoy traveling anywhere warm, most especially to Hawaii. Ernie also was an avid card player and excelled at cribbage, which he took quite seriously. Ernie was known for his kind, outgoing personality, sense of humor, and infectious smile. He made close friends wherever he went, and they became like family to him.
In 1996, Ernie married his soul mate, Karen Kilmer Simpson, and moved to Millis, MA, where he lived until they both retired to Florida to enjoy the warmth, the ocean, and year-round golf.
In addition to his wife, Ernie is survived by his son, Jeremy Simpson and daughter, Julie Simpson; two brothers Bruce Simpson and wife Marie of Norfolk, and Paul Simpson of Medfield, two grandchildren, Autumn and Gus, his niece Lynn Bois and nephew Shawn Simpson, and he will be dearly missed by his faithful Pug, Ralphie.
Ernie was predeceased by his son Jon Simpson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to A Mother's Wish Foundation (amotherswishfoundation.org). A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. This is to be determined.
