Eugene Harold Myrick, 77, of Jamestown, NC, and Supply, NC passed away peacefully at his beach home on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, following a period of declining health.
Born in High Point, NC, on December 26, 1947, Gene was one of two children born to the late Clinton H. and Zelma Teague Myrick.
A 1966 graduate of Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, NC, Gene pursued his lifelong career in the hair industry, opening his salon, The Lion's Mane, in 1972. He was a storyteller, a craftsman of words and scissors alike. He shaped lives one at a time, and he colored the world with laughter, care, and love.
Throughout his career, he earned numerous industry awards and was an educator, colorist, and platform artist. Later in his career, Gene represented Goldwell Mid-Atlantic as a salesman and managed three of their stores in North Carolina and Virginia. He considered his clients friends, welcoming them with his sense of humor, a huge smile, and an infectious laugh. In his early years, Gene was an avid supporter of Jamestown youth sports, serving as a basketball coach, baseball umpire, and football referee, and also as a supporter of the Ragsdale High School Booster Club. He always looked forward to attending his grandchildren's sporting events and dance recitals.
Gene's enjoyment of boating, carpentry, and "the fixer of all things" as well as dancing and beach music are cherished memories. He was "Papaw" to five wonderful grandchildren who adored him. His sky-blue eyes sparkled with joy and pride, reflecting his deep love for Austin, Weston, Babydoll Tabitha, Angus, and Fulton.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Pamela Sechrest Myrick, his much-loved sons, Chris Myrick (Patty) and Nick Myrick (Kelly), and five treasured grandchildren, Austin Myrick (Lindsay), Weston Myrick (Logan), Tabitha Myrick, Angus Myrick, and Fulton Myrick, and his dear sister Donna Ledbetter Cochran (Terry) along with very special nieces, a nephew, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on October 30, 2025, at Vickrey Chapel Church, 5348 Vickrey Chapel Road, Greensboro, NC, at 11:00 am. The Reverend Shea Collins will conduct the service, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
The family would like to thank "April's Angels," the caregivers who gave Gene devoted care during his final days, and Kimberly Freeman, who helped navigate the Hospice process.
With gratitude, the family requests that memorials be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care at 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, or online at www.lcfh.org.
