Fay Richard Vernon

Fay Richard Vernon, 89, passed away on November 8, 2024. He returned home after a long and fulfilling life surrounded by loved ones.

Fay was bom on June 2, 1935 to Richard Lynn Vernon and Annabell (Mills) Vernon in Hoytsville, Utah. Fay lived in Hoytsville almost his whole life, only leaving for the army and school. Fay graduated from North Summit High School in 1953.

From 1954 to 1956 Fay spent two years in Germany while serving his country in the United States Army. After the army, Fay attended Weber College where he played football. He met the love of his life, Annette (Hains), while playing at a football game in California. Fay and Annette were married on September 4, 1957 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They went on to have five beautiful children: Jeffrey, Marilyn (Mortensen), David, Margaret (Pierpont), and Michelle (Jesperson). Fay and Annette were married for 67 love filled years.

After graduating with his associates degree from Weber, Fay graduated from BYU with his Bachelors in education. After graduation he taught at Kearns Junior High before eventually returning back to North Summit to teach social studies, civics, history, and drivers education. In the summers, Fay spent his time with his family and driving the milk truck. Following his teaching career at North Summit, Fay started driving semi trucks, and eventually finished out his career working for Park City transportation as a chauffeur.

Fay was often known for his love of sports, his lifelong devotion to BYU football, and his beautiful yard; which he spent countless hours tending to. Fay would often be found chasing his grandkids around watching their many sports, and supporting them throughout their athletic careers. During Christmastime, it wasn’t uncommon for neighbors throughout the valley to make a special trip to drive past Fay and Annette’s house to see his joyful Christmas light displays. He served faithfully as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout various callings, including as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.

Fay was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings (Norene Zundel, Marilyn, Clifton, and Barbara Staley), one daughter-in-law (Linda Vernon), and one great grandson (Conner Owens). Fay is leaving behind a legacy of 12 grandchildren and 21 beautiful great grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Hoytsville Church with a viewing from 6-8 pm on Thursday, November 14th. Funeral services will start at 11 am on Friday, November 15th, with a viewing one hour prior.
