Florence Porter Faas passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the remarkable age of 101, in St. Augustine, Florida, where she had lived for many years.
Born on June 24, 1923, in Kearny, New Jersey, Florence was the beloved daughter of John Porter and Lillian Perpente Hogan and stepdaughter to Thomas Hogan. An only child, she enjoyed a vibrant and charmed upbringing, filled with dance, and the joy of entertaining-a reflection of the spirited personality and zest for life she had in her old age.
She married John Faas and together they raised their four children in various parts of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her husband John, and her sons John and Michael.
In her later years, Florence retired to Florida where she enjoyed spending time with her family, being a part of her Red Hat Ladies group, countless lunches, shows and afternoons with friends. For the past 12 years, she was a cherished resident of the Samantha R. Wilson Care Center. Known affectionately as "French Fry," she was a dynamic part of the community and beloved by staff and fellow residents alike. Her wit, charm, and unmistakable enthusiasm brought joy to everyone around her. One of her favorite sayings was, "Been there, done that"-and Florence certainly did.
She is survived by her daughters, Candace Evans and her husband Robert of St. Augustine, Florida, and Barbara Barrett and her husband Glenn of Bayville, New Jersey. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
It's hard to sum up a life that spanned over a century, but Florence's was one filled with love, laughter, and the embrace of family and friends. Florence will be remembered for her grace, her boundless energy, and the love and laughter she brought into every room. Her life was a testament to joy, resilience, and living fully.

I always enjoyed visiting with French Fry when I visited my Aunt Gert. She was such a lively sprit. I'm so sorry for your loss. No matter how long you have your mom, it's never long enough.
