Frank Supple Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home - Tidewater Drive Chapel on Aug. 11, 2024.
Frank Dominic Supple was born on July 25, 1950 in Niagara Falls, New York to Carolyn Cusimano and Edward Supple. He graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1979 and practiced medicine in the Richmond area for most of his professional career. Frank was also a proud member of the U.S. Army Reserves for a number of years, rising to the rank of Major. Frank found joy in everything he did, whether watching some of his favorite shows like 'Swamp People' or 'Alien Abductions', listening to his favorite bands like The Rolling Stones or all the oldies, or simply spending time with his family.
To his patients and Army colleagues he was simply known as 'Doc Frank'. And those privileged enough to fall under his anesthesia care would always here, "Hellooo, I'm Frank and I pass Gas." This longstanding ice breaker highlighted Frank's sense of humor and it always made his patients a little more relaxed, jovial, and secure, because they knew the 'big guy' was there for them. Of course, being Frank, he would always add, "And if I begin to look good, then you've had too much." His sense of humor was always the best medicine.
To his family, he was known as 'Gampa', a name given to him by his oldest grandchild, Jimmy. Gampa was always there, ready to take everyone to the next gun show or military trade show. He was also always ready with a quip or remark that would keep everyone in stitches (pun intended), and that is what he will always be remembered for. His sense of humor never diminished, even in his final days in the hospital. He could bring a smile to anyone's face, no matter the situation. He used humor to bring people together. No memory of Frank would be complete without sharing some of his family's favorite quips. And with that, here are some of the gems that will live on forever:
* When looking for anything in the house: 'Your mother must have thrown it out!'
* When he had Connie looking for something in the house: 'Bend over further, it's in the back of the drawer.'
* He also convinced one of his grandsons (Jimmy) to say one of his favorite quips during Jimmy's senior speech in front of his entire high school: 'I come before you to stand behind you to tell you something I know nothing about.' In seeing the video of Jimmy doing this, Frank laughed like he hadn't laughed in a long time.
*There was also a quip used anytime, anywhere, for any reason: 'What da hell?!?!'
*And at any meal he would ask, 'Will this come out?' referring to the perpetual stain on his shirt.
*You also never knew when he'd respond with 'You're Mutha!' It could come out when anyone asked him anything, at anytime, on any day.
*And finally, one of the all time greatest: 'Pull my finger and see what you've won!'
Frank is survived by his wife, Connie aka "Gwendolyn", his brother Eddie, his three stepsons Jeff (Mary), Jason (Michelle) and Scott (lil Melvin) (the stepsons were also referred to as Curly, Larry and Mo), and his grandchildren Jimmy, "his meatball", Sarah and Adam, "Stosh and Yosh", Stephen, Brandon, and Justin "the Buffalo kids", and his two nieces Fawne and Shauna.
And we can't leave out all the fur-babies he spoiled stinkin' rotten "Lil Sadie Muffin", "Stompy-nater", and"Fluffernutter." Each dog already had a name, but it wasn't until Frank properly nicknamed them that they had their real identity and purpose - which was to eat cookies in his lap and have their "cooloo" scratched.
We'll miss you and your wickedly funny sense of humor Gampa. We all look forward to the day we can see you again. Until then, we'll keep the tradition alive and ensure our fingers are pulled whenever it is most inappropriate – with friends, family, and strangers alike. We love you Gampa, and remember: We're just cleaning your guns for you.

I know I am late in doing this but.....here goes anyway. I helped manage the OR schedule at HDH in 1992. Frank would come by the desk and make some funny quip. It always helped me cope! And some days I needed that! Then, I knew he had been there because he wore enough cologne that it would linger a bit after he went on down the hall!

As a volunteer at Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital, I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Supple during his physical therapy sessions. He was always kind and appreciative of everything we did for him. I can also attest to how hard he worked to get better and improve his mobility skills. His sense of humor and people skills were evident with every interaction I had with him. I loved reading the beautiful descriptions of his life in the official obituary. As a volunteer, I only got a glimpse of this wonderful man. Obviously, he was well-loved and had a well-lived life. I pray Dr. Supple´s family and friends will find comfort in their special memories.

I was very sorry to hear about Frank's passing. Although I tried, I lost contact with him when he moved to Virginia Beach. He and I had known each other since the early 1990s at Henrico Doctors Hospital. I always felt confident in his abilities and his commitment to patient comfort. This included his sense of humor. I then arranged for him to perform the anesthesia for IVF procedures at our center in Richmond. All procedures and surgeries are stressful but Frank had a way of calming the situation and making the patient feel cared for. He will be missed by his family and friends. RIP

My sincere condolences to Connie and family. Frank and I hail from the same hometown and I have known him for many years. He was a kind and gentle giant. He always had a great sense of humor and a great joy for life. Heaven’s gain is our loss . Rest in Peace Frank.

So very sorry to hear about Frank´s passing. My first meeting with Frank was in anesthesia school when he was assigned to me as my preceptor. He was to show me how it was done. So we go to pre-op our assigned patients for the next day. All 3 of them took one look at Frank and me and cancelled their surgeries. And so it began. We worked together for many years. What a big-hearted, great guy. RIP. Libby Cornwell
