Freddy E. Davenport, 84, beloved husband of Martha H. Davenport, peacefully passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Pelzer, SC, he was a son of the late T. B. and Alma Hill Davenport.
Freddy grew up in a large family and graduated from Parker High School, Class of 1956. While in high school he worked part time at Judson Mill and after graduation continued his textile career. He was able to further his education at Greenville Technical College while working at Judson and was promoted to Supervisor. Freddy retired in 2012 from Judson Mill after 50 years of exemplary service.
Mr. Davenport was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church.
Those left to treasure his memory include his wife, Martha; a daughter, Mechelle Greer; a son, Gary Stewart; two grandsons, Daniel H. Greer and Lt. Seth M. Greer; a brother, Donald Ray Davenport and his wife Beverly; two sisters, Lorraine Brown and Rebecca Louise Mann; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Young and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Daniel Greer; daughter-in-law, Jessica Stewart; a granddaughter, Amber Stewart; a sister, Sharon Mahaffey; two brothers-in-law, Robert Brown and Ted Mann; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Margaret Henson.
The family wishes to thank the hospice organization – Hospice and Palliative Care Palmetto Region, especially Alice Letmon, Tia Smith, Kristina Schafer, and Angela Young, for their compassionate kindness.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, October 21, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in Greenville Memorial Gardens, Piedmont.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a worthy charity of one's choice.
