Born in Allentown PA on November 4, 1933, he was the son of the late William R. Thomas, III and Lucy (Watts) Thomas. Fritz was a proud father to Lucy Thomas and Fritz Thomas, Jr. and his wife Denise, and a loving grandfather to Will, Paul, and Sally. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy.
After graduation from The Lawrenceville School, he received his B.A. from Princeton University in 1955. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Army in Germany before a career in small business ownership.
Fritz was a longtime member of the Saucon Valley Country Club and a strong supporter of The Bach Choir, Historic Bethlehem, and Moravian Academy. When not listening to, and singing along with, his favorite opera arias or cheering on the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, he reveled in meticulously crafting model airplanes and flying them alongside a community of fellow enthusiasts. Above all, Fritz loved his family deeply and will be remembered for his wry humor and keen intellect.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Fritz's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fritz's memory may be made to the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, 440 Heckewelder Place, Bethlehem, PA 18018, or to Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites, 74 West Broad Street, Suite 310, Bethlehem, PA 18018.

My lifelong friend Lucy wasn´t the only Thomas who was an important fixture in my growing up. What a privilege it was each visit to be invited into the "inner sanctum" of Mr. Thomas´ study. I would be enthusiastically greeted and then we´d get down to business: a rousing chat about music, books, and the state of the world, as if I were a full-grown thinker. If I have any rhetorical skills today, Mr. Thomas was a part of my education. Whether commiserating or sparring over a topic, conversation was always great fun. One of my favorite memories was our impromptu duet of "Là ci darem la mano" from Mozart´s Don Giovanni. I like to think we weren´t all that bad! Judy and Papa Fritz were like, and continue to be, a second family to me. My love for them and Lucy is boundless, and to this day, their landline number is the only phone number other than my own that I remember from childhood.
