MANSFIELD: Fred Neidert had more than a good sense of humor – he had a fine sense of ridiculousness! He loved to make people laugh. Whether with his silly riddles or goofy songs or gut-busting jokes, Fred was a "ball-buster extraordinaire".
Fred passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024 in his Mansfield home. He was 84.
Born January 24, 1940 in Akron to parents Andrew and Elizabeth (Heidt) Neidert, he was graduated from Buchtel High School in 1958. He entered the US Army later that year and served with the 2nd Armored Division of the 41st Infantry.
Following his military service he returned stateside and earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing from Kent State University in 1966. While at Kent State, he was active with Phi Delta Theta fraternity – and made lifelong friends with those fraternity brothers.
His 44-year career in sales led him to Heisler's Truck Dealership, where he spent more than 25 years, and managed both the dealerships in Mansfield and Wooster. Following his first retirement, he lent his sales skills to Craig Smith Auto Group, where he sold RVs, before accepting a position with Midway Truck Sales.
He was a member of First Congregational Church.
Though he followed The Ohio State Buckeyes, and Cleveland Browns, his grandchildren's activities were his priority. An avid golfer, Fred enjoyed fishing – so many fishing trips with his father to Canada, and others to Lake Erie – and bowled in leagues for years.
A staunch Republican with conservative values, Fred was patriotic, proud of his military service, and secretly loved to poke-the-bear of Democratic liberals!
Fred solved cryptograms every day, and loved to play cards. He leaves his family a legacy of commitment – 57 years of hugs and love with his bride – and unconditional love for his family.
He is survived by his best friend, his constant companion, and wife Lucille (Schneider) Neidert (she's had a crush on him since she was 12!); daughter Lisa (Michael) Dulin of Mansfield, son Andrew (Kelly) Neidert of Columbus; grandchildren Mitchell Dulin, Gunner Dulin, Daniel Neidert, and Jenna Neidert; brother-in-law Robert Deibel of Columbus; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, cherished friends, golfing buddies, and of course his fraternity brothers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Janice Deibel.
The Neidert family will receive guests, Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fred's memory to Tunnel to Towers or Gentiva Hospice may be made at the funeral home.
