Gail quietly passed away on August 2nd, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. Gail was born in Tacoma, Washington to Daniel C. Shiderly and JoAnn Shiderly. Gail graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School in Germany and married Wilhelm E. Ferguson in 1966 and had two sons William Michael Ferguson and John Robert Ferguson in
Wichita Falls, TX. She then went to the University of Texas at Arlington for college and was a Certified Public Accountant. She spent many years as theController at Midwestern State University in
Wichita Falls, Texas. Gail spent the last twenty-five years of her life with her longtime friend and husband, Cecil "Skip" Chappell.
Born into a military family, Gail was fortunate to live in many places during her life, including Hokkaido, Japan and Ramstein, Germany. Seeing the world via cruise ships with her loving husband and best traveling companion, Skip, was one of her greatest ambitions. When not traveling, Gail could be found at their lake house on Possum Kingdom Lake enjoying the company of friends and family. She mastered creative cooking, adored her dogs, and relished the challenge of investing in the stock market. When not on a cruise or at the lake, you could find Gail in a movie theatre with a large popcorn and a Diet Coke.
Throughout her life, Gail displayed her gift of generous hospitality. She loved to host family and friends at home and at the lake. She was proud to be a staunch conservative Republican.
Gail was preceded in death by her father Daniel C. Shiderly, mother JoAnn Shiderly Nelson, sister Sandy McCarthy, brother Roy Shiderly, and first husband Wilhelm E. Ferguson.
Gail is survived by her husband Cecil "Skip" Chappell of
Wichita Falls, Texas, son William "Bill" Ferguson of
Joplin, Missouri, son John Ferguson of
Austin, Texas, granddaughter Tyler Ferguson Grona and her husband Hunter of
Bulverde, Texas, granddaughter Brianna Ferguson and great-granddaughter Mila of Columbus, Kansas, brother Dan Shiderly and his wife Kay of
Fort Worth, Texas and sister Cathy Jackson of
Wichita Falls, Texas, step-daughter Sherry Jones and her husband Garry of Duncan, Oklahoma, step-daughter Michelle Chappell Dollar and her husband Shane and their son, Levin of Arlington, Texas, step-son Kris Chappell and his wife Caitlin of Arlington, Texas and their children Bryce, Jack, Beckham and Hazel. Gail is also survived by dearest friend and sister-in-law, Marsha Chappell of Wichita Falls and sister-in-law Melody Brown and her husband Michael of Wichita Falls.
Wherever Gail went, she made lasting friendships. From living abroad with her military family, raising her sons in Wichita Falls, and pursuing her professional career at MSU, she leaves many friends who will miss her.
Gail loved and spoiled her dogs Millie, Max and Roxie. They will greatly miss her companionship.
A celebration to honor Gail's life will be scheduled for a future date.
