After a very brief bout with cancer, Bloomfield resident Gail Pittman, 75, passed away on October 13, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. As a former teacher, Gail would have wanted to share the cause of her death in order to educate and enlist others in the fight to eradicate cancer, the second leading cause of death in Connecticut. Gail was the youngest of thirteen children born to the late Mary Harris Pittman and Leroy Pittman, Sr.
Born in Hartford Connecticut, Gail attended Hartford Public Schools until the Pittman family relocated to Bloomfield, Connecticut. After graduating from Bloomfield High School in 1967, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Eastern Connecticut State College (University). After graduation, she secured a position with the Hartford Board of Education. Additional employment was with Pratt and Whitney and the Judicial Branch of the State of Connecticut.
Family and friends will remember Gail for her quiet demeanor, her unconditional support, and her steadfastness.
Gail leaves to mourn her sister Joan, her brother Calvin (Claudette), her niece Kelly, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and associates. Gail was predeceased by seven brothers Alfred, Leroy, Marvin, Norman, Louis, Leonard and Marshall Pittman and three sisters Edith Blount, Shirley Pittman, and Jean P. Jenkins.
Gail's family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Church Ministries, 20 Battles Street, Hartford, CT.
