Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martin & Hightower Funeral Home - Carrollton on Nov. 24, 2025.
With full hearts and deep love, we share the passing of Garon Hatcher Shoemake, age 82, on November 22, 2025. Born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1942, in
Carrollton, Georgia, Garon was a gift to all who knew him. A steady, hardworking man with a gentle spirit, a quick smile, and a lifelong love for the outdoors.
Garon graduated from Carrollton High School in 1960, and just a few years later, in 1963, he married the love of his life, Sybil. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and simple joys. Garon was never one to sit still; his work ethic carried him first to Lockheed Martin for ten years, and later to Plant Yates, where he worked for more than three decades and eventually served as a Supervisor with the Southern Company. He retired in 2005, proud of the career he had built and the friendships he had made along the way.
If something was broken, Garon could fix it, no fuss, no bragging, just steady hands and patience. He was happiest outside, whether with a rod, a bow and arrow, or simply the quiet of the woods. His love for hunting and fishing began in childhood alongside his father, and those same traditions became treasured memories with his sons, David and Scott. Even at 82, he still headed into the woods with excitement, proving that age never dimmed his spirit.
Garon was a longtime member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where he found fellowship, purpose, and community. Above all, family was his greatest pride. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Sybil Hines Shoemake; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and David Johnson; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Angela Shoemake and Scott and Patty Shoemake. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Morrison Reid, James Tyler Reid, Brackon Cohen, Aidan Cohen, Sarain Shoemake, Roman Shoemake, Matthew Shoemake, Simon Shoemake, Cade Riggs, and Kaylee Riggs, along with his nine great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy.
Garon is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Henry Palmer "Pat" Shoemake and Nora Akin Shoemake, and his sister, Donna Shoemake.
A service celebrating Garon's life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Pastor Murphy Hagen officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM.
Garon will be laid to rest in Carroll Memory Gardens, where his grandsons will lovingly serve as pallbearers, and Minister Barry Shoemake will render the graveside service.
As we say goodbye, we hold tight to the legacy he leaves, a life marked by loyalty, humility, laughter, hard work, a deep love for family, and a true appreciation for God's great outdoors.
