Gary James Dutton, age 81, passed away at his home in Loudon on May 19, 2025.
Gary spent his life loving and supporting his family and advocating for children. In 52 years in education, he was a teacher, coach, principal, supervisor, college professor, department chair, assistant dean, and consultant.
He believed that education created life choices.
He liked Bojangles Rooster Club, the shop party, Gatlinburg in June and peanut butter.
He loved Johann.
Gary held a BA from Maryville College, MA from Tennessee Tech University, and an Ed.D. from University of Tennessee Knoxville.
He received the Horizon Award for Excellence in Education from LMU and in 2017 was inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame.
He is preceded in death by his parents Archie and Marie Dutton. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Johann, his two sons John (Tracy) and Craig (Kristen), and grandchildren Noah, Caleb (Emilee), Nathaniel and Lily.
The family will be having a drop-in celebration of life in the Loudon High School Cafeteria on June 22, 2025 from 2:00PM-4:00PM, there will be a brief service at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Gary Dutton to the Randy Davis Memorial Milk Fund (2303 Davis Dairy Road, Philadelphia TN 37846) or the Maryville College Athletic Department.
