Rittman - Gary W. Maibach, age 79, of Rittman, formerly of Sterling, passed away on Thursday, June 6th, 2024 at Ohio's Hospice LifeCare in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Gary was born on October 24, 1944, in Lodi, Ohio, to the late Elmer "Tug" and Alma (Beery) Maibach. He graduated from Norwayne High School with the class of 1962. On July 18, 1965, he married Mary Ann Graf in Akron, Ohio, and she survives. Gary served as a Medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded an Army Commendation Medal, a Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star.
He served as the President of Maibach's Furniture in Sterling for 54 years, partially retiring in 2008 and fully retiring in 2016.
Gary was baptized into the Apostolic Christian Church on June 9, 1963, and became a minister on January 3, 1971. He had a passion for music, especially singing, playing the trombone, and being part of a quartet. He also enjoyed washing buckets and meat canning at HarvestCall.
In addition to his wife Mary Ann, Gary is survived by his daughter, Karen (Jim) Widmer of Sterling; three sons, Mark (Julie) Maibach of Leo, IN, David (Larisa) Maibach of Rittman, and James (Susan) Maibach of Sterling; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Gail (Ned) Spangler of Lancaster, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 2-4pm & 6-8pm on Monday, June 17th at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, or from 9:30-10:15am on Tuesday morning at the church.
A service will be held at Smithville Apostolic Christian Church, 8530 Fulton Rd., Sterling, on Tuesday, June 18th at 10:30am, with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Cemetery in Rittman.
Memorial contributions may be made to HarvestCall, 10155 E. Pleasant Home Rd, Sterling, OH 44276.
