Gary Sellers

Gary Sellers, age 66, of Cottondale, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Hospice of West Alabama. Funeral services, with Military Honors, will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 11:00AM from Evergreen Baptist Church (16503 US-11, Vance, AL 35490), with Bro. Jack Clary and Bro. Jason Jones officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church.
Gary was born August 22, 1956, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Dib and Maggie Sellers. He attended Brookwood High School with the class of 1975. In 1976, he enlisted in the United States Navy.
By trade Gary was a carpenter and truck driver. For the past nine years, he was employed with Tuscaloosa County School System as Head Custodian of Brookwood Elementary School. He enjoyed every day with the challenge of meeting all the "Kiddos" who called him "Mr. Gary."
Gary was a true outdoorsman, who loved to fish and just sitting on the deck enjoying evening sunsets with his two furry companions, Moses and Momma Dog, and talking to his friends and family. Later in life his most challenging decision was him accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior. The demons he battled in his previous life, Christ defeated them. He became a Soldier in Christ's army. He developed the passion to make Cedar Crosses for the veterans, which later led him to making them as a witnessing tool. To the present day, he has made hundreds of little crosses which have traveled around the world. Gary's tender heart could not be measured. He was just a "Simple Man."
Pallbearers are the Brookwood Elementary Teachers.
Honorary pallbearers are Brookwood Elementary School, Brookwood Middle School, Dr. Bobo, Hospice of West Alabama, Michael Keeton, Ms. Leah, Dana Fisher, Fleetwood Store and Community, Johnny and Lorrie Mayes, Byron and Tammy Shirley, Larry and Brenda Green, Wedgewood Neighbors, Mills Pharmacy, and MSCU- Mary McFerrin.
