Howard Aubrey Poole

Howard Aubrey Poole, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in McCalla, Alabama on the evening of November 5, 2024. He was born in Greeley, Alabama to William Jesse and Rosa Belle (nee Tubbs) Poole on June 6, 1934.
Howard answered the call to serve his country shortly after graduation from Brookwood High School in 1952, joining the United States Air Force and stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Alabama, where he continued his service in the Air Force Reserves. He found a lasting career as a skilled machinist, working at Hughes Aircraft, U.S. Pipe, and Inland Steel, culminating finally in his retirement from Alabama Metal Industries after thirty-three dedicated years.
In 1955, Howard would marry the love of his life, Sarah Nell (nee Dennis). They were married for 69 years, with four children from this union: Clark Aubrey, Michael Dale, Stephanie Yvette, and Phillip Dwight.
Baseball was one of Howard's greatest passions. He played for several local teams in his younger years and later enjoyed cheering on his children from the stands. Howard also loved the outdoors; he was an avid deer and bird hunter, training his own bird dogs with care and dedication. He likewise found joy in working on his cars, always with a meticulous touch.
Deeply committed to serving his community, Howard dedicated many years as a respected member of the Green Pond Water Board, where his efforts contributed to the well-being of his neighbors and friends.
Howard is predeceased by his father and mother, William Jesse and Rosa Belle Poole; sisters Stella Shackleford, Claudie George, Marie George, and Onzell Dennis; sons Clark Aubrey and Phillip Poole.
Howard is survived by his beloved spouse Sarah; son Michael Dale (Susan); daughter Stephanie Gamble (Jeff); grandsons Christopher Gamble, Cody Gamble, and Dr. Gregory Poole; great grandson Dylan Gamble and great granddaughters Alyssa Gamble and Aubrey Gamble; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastor John Butler of Green Pond Church of God of Prophecy will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Christopher Gamble, Cody Gamble, Dylan Gamble, Johnny Morgan, Patrick Dennis, and Dr. Gregory Poole. Roy Fisher, Jr. will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
Visitation will be at McCalla Funeral Home from 12pm-1pm, followed immediately by the service in the Chapel. Burial will be at Hickman Chapel Cemetery in McCalla, Alabama.
