Gary Watson, 86 of
Wells, ME. and
Sarasota, FL. passed away on May 16, 2024. He loved life and lived it fully. He treasured being with his family, enjoying concerts, traveling, discovering local walking trails, and new places to get a good cup of coffee. He embraced conversations with random folks he encountered. He had a great sense of humor with a big laugh, and he never missed making a good pun.
He graduated Oliver Ames High School in No.
Easton, MA. in the class of 1955 and immediately enlisted in the Air Force which fueled his love of travel. He spent a number of years stationed at bases on Iwo Jima and Suribachi, Japan working as an electronics expert maintaining radar and aircraft to ground control communication. He once saved the life of an American pilot who had lost navigation landing control of his plane. Reacting quickly with precise information, Gary was able to guide the forever grateful pilot to land safely.
After the Air Force, he attended Bridgewater State College, graduating in the Class of 1969 with a degree in English. Gary's passion has always been his writing. As an Advertising Creative Director, he loved inventing ingenious ways to promote his client's products and services. One of his colleagues wrote, "Gary can deliver a selling message on baked beans just as effectively as he can convince his audience to try a new bank. He can make you hungry for Pop Tarts and weep at the importance of circuit boards in an auto plant."
He received many prestigious advertising awards for his work including an Addy, Clio, Gold Effie, Hatch and Rutgers University Award for Advertising of Outstanding Social Significance.
Another of Gary's passions was watching his young son Cliff play baseball and other sports. As Cliff matured, Gary loved hearing updates of the young man's hiking adventures and road and trail races throughout the New England area.
Gary is survived by his wife Lynn (Robinson,) son Cliff Watson, and daughter-in-law Danielle. His family also includes his sister, Gail Beck and brother-in-law, Robert; John, his brother and sister-in-law Anne, sisters-in-law Lois and Joanne Watson and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Lorraine Watson, his father, Bud Watson; and his brothers Edward and Steve Watson.
We know that Gary is kicked back, relaxing on his lanai in Florida, coffee in hand watching the sunset over the lake. He had a life well-lived.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, June 29, 2024 from 1-4 p.m. in Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 605 Washington Street (Rte.138) Easton.
