Gaylerd Cooper

Gaylerd Paul Cooper, age 83, of Clio, formerly of Hubbardston passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at Pray Family Care Home in Clio. He was born January 18, 1942, in Hubbardston, the son of Kenneth and Ireta (Griswald) Cooper. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy in the Construction Battalion, serving from October 7, 1964, until his honorable discharge on January 15, 1965. He would go on to serve two years in the United States Naval Reserve. Gaylerd also attended Ferris State University where he studied architecture and drafting.
Gaylerd married Katherine Pozsgai who preceded him in death. He later married Sharon Proctor Burns, who also preceded in him death.
Gaylerd was a lifelong farmer and retired from Montcalm Community College from grounds and maintenance after 10 years of service. He found great peace outdoors, especially in his love of photography, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He had a love for animals, especially his bird dogs. Gaylerd was known for his artistic abilities and enjoyed painting, woodworking, drawing, and cross-stitching. There was nothing Gaylerd loved more than being with his family and friends and always looked forward to hosting parties at his home.
Gaylerd is survived by his daughter Wendy (Ray Salazar) Cooper; his granddaughter Jordynn (Derick) Hearit; his great-grandson Levi with one more on the way. Also, his siblings Phyllis (Tom) Barker, Genette Taylor and Duane Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Katherine; his second wife Sharon; his parents Kenneth and Ireta; and his brothers Donald, Gerald, Gary, and William Cooper.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Pray Family Care Home for the loving care they provided Gaylerd. The family asks those who plan to attend funeral services to please wear your favorite camouflage or cheerful colors to celebrate Gaylerd's life.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 4 pm at Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Carson City. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 pm until the time of services at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later time in Palo Cemetery.
