Gemma Mariano

Gemma Mariano, a beacon of creativity and faith, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at the age of 99. Born on January 18, 1926, to Nicola and Anna Mariano, Gemma's life was one of vibrant artistry and devout service, touching the lives of many with her loving presence.
Gemma grew up in a close-knit family, cherished by her parents and siblings. She was a loving sister to Anthony Mariano of Carlisle, MA, and was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Mary Esposito and Carmela Catinella. Her warmth extended to her many nieces and nephews, who will remember her fondly for her kindness and the joy she brought into their lives.
A proud alumna of the High School of Practical Arts in Roxbury, Gemma's artistic talents were evident early on. Her exceptional skills earned her a coveted scholarship and a recommendation to the prestigious Museum of Fine Arts School, where she honed her craft and prepared for a fulfilling career in the arts.
Gemma's professional journey as an Art Designer at Court Square Press in South Boston was marked by dedication and brilliance. Her creative contributions left an indelible mark on the community, and her work was not just a job but a calling that she pursued with passion and excellence.
Beyond her professional achievements, Gemma was a very talented artist who found joy and solace in painting and sewing, among other crafts. She was a steadfast member of the Legion of Mary at St. Ann's in Neponset, where she was an avid parishioner. Gemma's commitment to her faith was evident in the way she led the daily rosary and actively participated as a member of the "K" Club in Dorchester.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Gemma will remember her for always having a smile on her face. Her disposition was a testament to her inner beauty, and her willingness to go above and beyond with her art to give back to her community reflected her generous spirit.
Gemma's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, creativity, and faith. She was a woman who not only created beautiful works of art but also lived her life as a masterpiece of devotion and service. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her and in the many works of art that grace the spaces they inhabit.

Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton on Thursday March 20 from 8:30am to 9:30am. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann's Church in Dorchester at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Milton Cemetery.
