Gene Boccia Obituary

YOUNGSTOWN -  Gene A. Boccia, 78, died on February 27, 2024. 
He was born on June of 7, 1945 in Seattle, WA, a son of Ralph and Carmel Boccia. After the war, Gene's family came back to the Youngstown area where they resided on the West Side.

Gene graduated from Chaney High School and went to Youngstown State University, Kent State University, and West Virginia University where he also did post graduate work. He was a graduate of the Ohio Real Estate Institute and was a certified safety and health manager. 

Gene owned and operated Quality Driver Training School for 25 years while teaching public school in Hubbard, Warren, McDonald, and Sebring. 

He also served as a reserve mahoning county debuty sheriff and was active in amatuer radio, red cross, and the Mahoning and Trumbull County disaster services. Gene was commissioned a Kentucy Colonel and a graduated Auction Colonel. 

Gene retired from Youngstown Water Department as an engineer aide. He continued education and never stopped learning. He enjoyed family, friends and traveling. He was also interested in photography, cooking, interior design and safety organizations. 

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Sondheimer and nephew, Joseph Sondheimer. 

He is survived by his niece, Shari (Mike) Eichman; great nieces, Brianna, Katelyn, and Allison Eichman; and brother in law, Kenneth Daniel Sondheimer.

Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
