George J. Farkas, age 96 longtime resident of this area died Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at his home.
A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, June 15. from 2 to 4pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Private family graveside services will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.
George Joseph Farkas was born May 28, 1929, in Silvis, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Borbala (Burinda) Farkas. He came to the Iowa City area in 1969 where he owned and operated Farkas Insurance Agency and Farkas Apartments for many years, known as a bit of a workaholic.
His family includes his son, Ron and his wife, Ann Farkas; grandchildren, Matthew Farkas, Jonathan Farkas, Katie Farkas, Lea Guldenpfennig (Mike), Amy Farkas and Rachel Garms (Adam); and great-grandchildren, Michael, Ethan and Ada.
George was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steven; and two grandchildren, Joseph and Jessica Farkas.
