GEORGE MATTHEW HAHNER, of Pensacola, a karaoke host and entertainer, and a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, died March 29 at his home. He was 50 years old.
George was born October 15, 1972, in Kankakee, Illinois, and grew up in Panama City, Florida. He was the owner and operator of Krazy George Productions. George was an award-winning karaoke legend in Pensacola for over two decades who believed that "there's a little rock star in everybody." He was also a graduate of Pensacola State College, an honor roll student in the Department of Social Work at the University of West Florida, a member of Sunday's Child, and a parishioner of Christ Church.
George is survived by his husband, Chad Michael Eyer; his parents, Richard George Hahner and Diane Lee (Henry) Hahner; his sister and brother-in-law, Sarah Katherine Manning and Kenneth Douglas Manning Jr.; and his nephew, Kenneth Douglas "Trace" Manning III.
Funeral services will be held April 13 at 1 p.m. at Christ Church, 18 W Wright St, Pensacola, with arrangements made by Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home. A celebration of George's life will be held April 18 at 7 p.m. at Goat Lips Chew and Brewhouse, 2811 Copter Rd, Pensacola. The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the UWF Foundation at uwf.edu/give.
George never knew a stranger, and he sought to help others have fun, love each other, and be their best selves. He lived by his philosophy that "there aren't any rules. Just be you, do your thing, do what makes you happy, and don't worry about what anybody else thinks."
WATERS & HIBBERT FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.

Sherri Gehrdes "Karaoke Mama"

April 6, 2023

I first met George 13 years ago when my daughter asked me to go to karaoke with her at Seville Quarter on college night. Our meeting turned into a wonderful friendship over the years. We shared much laughter and good times over the years. We had major discussions about all sorts of things and he was always a concerned friend who truly cared about those around him and what they were going through despite what he might have been going through himself. Last year, I battled two cancers and beat both of them. George and I spent much time talking about my health and he was so concerned and worried about me. When my daughter got married there was no question about who would be the host for the reception. George gladly hosted and even sang his version of "Ice Ice Baby" while doing the Running Man keeping us all thoroughly entertained. We cherish all of those memories. My thoughts and prayers are with Chad and the Hahner family. I was dubbed "Mama" many years ago and it stuck. Many have asked me if I was his real Mama. I might not have been his real mother, but we all became "family". He will be sorely missed. He was always our bright ray of sunshine. Until we meet again one day, dear friend.
