With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of George E. Mitchell, who peacefully departed this life at his home on January 28, 2025. Born on February 2, 1969, in Hampton, Virginia, to George Mitchell and Helen Mitchell, George lived a life dedicated to service, family, and community.
A devoted leader, George served as Chief of Customs and Border Protection, dedicating 23 years to his career. Prior to that, he honorably served in the United States Army for five years, including service as a proud Desert Storm veteran, exemplifying his deep commitment to protecting and serving his country.
George will be remembered as a kind, caring, and loving man-someone who was both respectable and straightforward. He had a passion for sports, enjoyed traveling, and found his greatest joy in the company of his beloved family.
He leaves behind his cherished wife, Patricia Mitchell; his daughters, Crystal Mitchell and Brianna Mitchell; his son, George Mitchell; his sisters, Phyllis Rodriguez and Bobbie Blackeney; and his brother, Phillip Cheseman.
He is reunited in eternal rest with his parents, George and Helen Mitchell; his sister, Jaqueline Hatcher; and his nephew, Kyle Robinson.
George's memory will be treasured by many, including a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held at Smith Brothers Funeral Home on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. George will be laid to rest with military honors at Fort Bliss, Texas, on February 14, 2025.
His legacy of love, service, and strength will forever live in our hearts.
