George Edward Nakata, 71, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family in the same town where he was born. A cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, George's unwavering integrity and kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
Born to the late George J. Nakata and Mary R. (Dutko) Nakata on December 4, 1952, in Bethlehem, PA, George grew up with a strong sense of community and family values. He was a proud graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 1970, laying a foundation of lifelong friendships and a commitment to education.
After graduation, George honorably served in the Army Reserves, where he dedicated himself to the service of his country with the same steadfastness that would characterize his entire life. Following his military service, he embarked on a career in shipping at Devro Warehouse, where he was respected for his work ethic and camaraderie until his well-earned retirement.
George's personal life was a testament to love and loyalty. He married the love of his life, Lois E. Nakata, and together they shared a beautiful journey of 48 years. Their partnership was a beacon of devotion, filled with mutual respect and shared joy. George was a guiding light to his children, Jeffrey Nakata and his wife Heather of Bethlehem, Kristy Nakata of Catasauqua, Jon Nakata of Whitehall, and Edward Nakata of Bethlehem, and 4 grandchildren. George is predeceased by his brother Ronald Nakata.
A man of faith, George was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bethlehem, where he found strength and solace in his beliefs. His faith was an integral part of his life, and it shone through in his every action, from the love he gave his family to the respect he showed his friends and colleagues.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. George's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
