George Dean Scharton

George Dean Scharton, Jr., age 66, of Greenwood, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025. He was born on October 11, 1958, in San Diego, California, to George Dean Scharton Sr., and Erma Eunice Gomez McWay. He was a 1977 graduate of Clairemont High School in San Diego, California, and worked in the family pest control business before moving to Indiana. For many years he worked in the Indianapolis area at several car dealerships. He loved his fifteen years he working at Southside Cigar and Tobacco. To George, it felt more like a hobby than a job. He liked to golf in his early years, and worked on computers. He enjoyed his time in wedding videography, but what he loved most was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years: Theresa L. Scharton of Greenwood; sons: Garrett (Caroline) Scharton and their son, Lincoln, of Richardson, Texas, Grant (Lynzi) Scharton and their children, Conrad and Victoria, of Johns Creek, Georgia, and Greg Scharton of Greenwood; daughters: Megan (Robert) Ojeda and their son Justin, of New Albany, and Abigail (Chase) Stout of Terre Haute; mother: Erma McWay; sister: Gina (Juan Garcia) Scharton; as well as eight nieces and nephews.
George is preceded in death by his father: George Scharton, Sr.; and parents-in-law: Henry and Nora Towles.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Simplicity Funeral Cremation Care, 7520 Madison Ave., Indianapolis.
