Morris – George "Bill" William Veatch, 93, formerly of Shrewsbury, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025 with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Blanche Erma (Witmer) Veatch.
Bill was born in Columbia, Pennsylvania on May 20, 1932, son of the late Raymond Elliot and Naomi Vivian (Hobday) Veatch. Bill's journey began in local classrooms before he joined the military - joining the Navy straight out of high school then re-enlisting in the Air Force launched a distinguished military career, ultimately discharging as a Chief Master Sergeant. He continued his government service with the Department of Defense. His service became a passport to the world, taking him and his wife, Blanche, across continents and cultures, collecting cherished souvenirs along the way. When their son, Anthony, was born, the trio embraced a life of constant adventure, setting down roots - however briefly - in places as diverse as Finland, Poland, India, Germany, Japan, and Venezuela. Every few years brought a new country, a new home, and a new chapter in their global story, before settling back in Pennsylvania in 1988.
After the passing of his beloved Blanche, Bill embraced a new chapter of life with quiet strength and purpose. Welcomed into the home of his son Tony, daughter-in-law Sharon, and their children, he quickly became the heart of the household - the quintessential grandfather. Whether chauffeuring his granddaughters to school, soccer or field hockey practice, or wherever their busy lives took them, or tackling daily chores with his trademark dependability, Bill was always present. He never missed a recital, a game, or a moment that mattered - showing up with pride, love, and unwavering support.
Bill enjoyed reading mystery books and watching soccer games. Above all, Bill loved his family beyond words and his legacy will live on in the lives he touched, and the mark he left on his family will never fade.
Bill leaves his son, Anthony Veatch, and his wife, Sharon, of Morris; and his cherished granddaughters, Lauren Veatch, and Emily Veatch.
Services will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to Meals on Wheels of Torrington, 88 E Albert St., Torrington CT 06790.
