Quiet and cruel was this fate when she visited in the guise of time, stealing your memories and mingling your thoughts so your vigorous life might be forgotten. Rest assured, rest sweetly, our Author, we remember you. Your smile told us we were what you'd hoped for and a smile is not a thing to be stolen.
George H. Wiederkehr, age 91, a resident of the Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta, NY and formerly of Charlton, NY, and Niantic, CT, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Saratoga Hospital.
Born on August 16, 1933, in Dietikon, Switzerland, he was the son of the late Hans and Maria (Haag) Wiederkehr. A determined and self-educated man, George grew up on a farm and later emigrated to the United States in 1955. He pursued higher education at the University of St. Louis, where he earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering.
While in California, he met the love of his life, Merilyn (Grove) Wiederkehr, and the two were united in marriage on September 21, 1957. Together, they built a joyful and loving family, raising seven children in Niantic, CT. He was blessed in turn with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George began his professional journey through General Dynamics in Groton, CT and the General Electric apprentice program, eventually becoming a respected engineer. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at General Electric Co. in Schenectady, NY, retiring as a proud member of the Quarter Century Club.
Beyond his career, his greatest devotion was to his wife and family. He also found immense joy and adventure in soaring the skies as a passionate recreational glider pilot. He built several gliders on his own, and soared across America in one in 1998.
George was the beloved husband of the late Merilyn (Grove) Wiederkehr and the cherished father of Sue Wiederkehr, Hans (Karen) Wiederkehr, Heidi (Kevin) McCarthy, Tony (Annette) Wiederkehr, David Wiederkehr, Elizabeth (John) Faklaris, and George (Brenda) Wiederkehr. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who will carry on his legacy of love, fierce perseverance, and adventure.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Thomas Konopka on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 10 am at Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville, NY 12302.
George will join his wife in rest at St. Peter's Cemetery, Saratoga Springs, NY.

I´m honored to have met George at Corinne and Ryan´s wedding. The love and bond in this family is strong! This is evident, even in this photograph, where every family member was watching this sweet moment and there wasn´t a single dry eye. He was adored by his family, and always will be. To know a Wiederkehr is a great thing, but to have one in your life is a blessing! That is quite the legacy!! Sending all the love and comfort to the Wiederkehr family. Love you Corinne.
