Gerald Corbett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors - Utica on Jan. 27, 2026.
Gerald (Jerry) R. Corbett, 79, of Sterling Heights, passed away January 24, 2026, surrounded by family after complications from Parkinson's disease.

Jerry was born on October 1, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Harold and Alberta. Jerry graduated from Ferndale High School in 1965. Soon after he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war. While on the U.S.S. Great Sitkin, Jerry was able to see the world and made sure to explore each port and experience different cultures. Jerry was honorably discharged and remained in the U.S. Navy reserves for an additional 3 years. Prior to his service, Jerry was employed at General Motors and returned after Vietnam. Jerry retired from General Motors after 40 years of dedication and hard work. During this time Jerry developed his strong work ethic, dependability and willingness to always learn more.

Jerry was a dedicated and loving father to his daughter Ann Thompson (nee Corbett) and son-in-law Kevin Thompson (who referred to him as Pop's), also caring father to the late Jennifer Angona (nee Corbett) and father-in-law to the late Terry Angona. Jerry was the proud Grandfather (Papa) to Elizabeth, Leslie, Dylan, Kevin Jr., Ryan and Kaelynn. He was the adoring Great Grandfather of many great grandchildren and excited for the arrival of his next great granddaughter. Although he had remarried and divorced, he was always the loving husband of the late Louise Corbett (nee Peacock), calling her the love of his life. Jerry was pre-deceased by his siblings Lynn, Jean, Jack, Gordon and James, all who he dearly missed. Jerry was blessed with many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law who were lifelong friends. Jerry also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

After retirement Jerry continued to wake up as the sun came up and decided what he would do with his day. Jerry enjoyed spending time at local coffee shops where he would talk with other regulars. Staying up on the latest technology was something he enjoyed, making sure to have the newest apple phone, watch and tablet was important to him. Throughout his journey he never complained, even during the hardest days, he would always say "I'm fine."

A visitation will take place at the Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Rd. (3Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica, on Friday (January 30th) from 3pm - 8pm and continue on Saturday (January 31st) from 10am until the time of service at 12pm (noon).
