Gerald A. "Gerry" LeBrasseur, 89
1935 - 2025
West Lynn, MA - Gerald Alley "Gerry" LeBrasseur, age 89, of West Lynn, passed away peacefully at his home, in the care of his wife and All Care Hospice, on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Born July 24, 1935, in Salem, Massachusetts, he was the beloved son of the late Alley "Ted" and Frances (Skwarczewski) LeBrasseur, and older brother to the late Connie LeBrasseur Melanson, Diane LeBrasseur Pomakis, Allen LeBrasseur, and Roger LeBrasseur.
Gerry graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1953 where-despite being born with only one full arm-he became a legend on the football field and also had great success in hockey and track. In 1990, the Classical Football Boosters established the "Gerry LeBrasseur Ironman Award", given out annually at their football banquet. Gerry will forever be remembered as one of the Classical Rams biggest fans. He attended over 75 straight annual Classical-English Thanksgiving football games at Manning Bowl and was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.
He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from American International College in Springfield in 1961 further solidifying his athletic prowess as a 2-way Varsity starter and captain in both football and hockey. While at AIC, Gerry was named All-American in Football his senior year, one of his greatest athletic achievements.
He began his professional life as a social worker for the City of Lynn before dedicating more than 30 years to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Director of Medicaid Quality Control. His compassion and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of countless families.
A lifelong resident of West Lynn, Gerry's passion for athletics never waned. He coached West Lynn youth in Pop Warner Football, and was later a coach with the Lynn Classical football program. Well into his 80s, he could still be found dominating on the racquetball courts of the Lynn YMCA, where he was a devoted member for decades.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elaine Donna (Stevens) LeBrasseur; his daughter Michelle LeBrasseur Pedro and son-in-law Peter Pedro, Jr. and his son Marc LeBrasseur and daughter-in-law Elisa LeBrasseur; grandchildren, Dana and Lauren LeBrasseur, Alexander, Olivia, and Amelia Pedro and great-grandson Landon LaChance. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Gerry's life was the embodiment of determination, caring, and community spirit. He loved his family, friends, and animals with a passion. He was a simple guy who loved a long day in the sun, doing carpentry work, and a walk with his dog. He will be remembered not only for his extraordinary athletic feats against the odds, but also for never saying "no" to anyone who needed his help.
