Gerald Mcminn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by M. John Scanlan Funeral Home - Pompton Plains on Aug. 8, 2024.
Gerald A. McMinn, lovingly known as Jerry, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family. He was 93 years old.
Born and raised in Butler, NJ, Jerry was the son of Thomas and Agnes McMinn. He graduated from Butler High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
It was while volunteering in the Emergency Room at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson that Jerry met the love of his life, Joan Beshada. Their connection was immediate, and they married on November 17,1956, beginning a beautiful journey together.
Jerry and Joan made their home in Pompton Lakes, where they welcomed three children into their lives: Laurie, Gerald, and Christine. Their home was filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Jerry was well-known in the community as the proud owner of the Milk Barn in Wayne, an ice cream parlor that brought joy to many. His impact extended far beyond his business, as he dedicated over 65 years to the Pompton Lakes First Aid Squad. In recognition of his service, the squad's building was named in his honor.
Being an EMT was one of Jerry's greatest passions. Throughout his remarkable career, he responded to nearly 300 ambulance calls, delivered 13 babies, and saved countless lives. He officially retired at the age of 86, leaving behind an incredible legacy. In 2017, the EMS Council of NJ awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award, a testament to his unwavering commitment to the well-being of his community. In addition, he was a 20-year volunteer driver for Morristown's MICU.
Yet, as proud as Jerry was of his professional accomplishments, nothing mattered more to him than his family. His heart belonged to his beloved wife, Joan; their children, Laurie, Gerry and his wife Lisa, and Christine and her husband Kevin; his cherished grandchildren, Ryan and his wife Tara, Kelly, Sean, and Erin and her husband Edward; and his adored great-grandchildren, Teagan, Kayden and Riley. Jerry's dedication to his family was unparalleled-whether it was attending a soccer game or a fencing match, he was always there, a constant source of love and support.
Jerry's presence in the lives of his family and community will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on forever.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 2-5:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with a 5:30 p.m. service held to conclude the visitation period. Cremation will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's memory to the Pompton Lakes First Aid Squad, 700 Ramapo Avenue, Pompton Lakes, NJ 07442 would be greatly appreciated by his family.

How did I not know Jerry owned the Milk Barn?! Had many ice cream cones there during my college years
Jerry was a constant presence for so many years in the Emergency Department in Morristown. A real gentleman and always that big smile. He will be sorely missed.
