Gerald Douglas Usrey, age 72, of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
Gerald was born on April 26, 1952, in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Enoch Usrey and the late Ruby Gentry Usrey.
He was a member of the O'Connor Church of Christ. Gerald loved spending time with his family and friends. He never met a stranger. Once he met you, he knew your name, where you were from, where you worked, and most of your relatives, and he remembered you when he saw you again. He loved to fish, especially Edd Rogers Tournaments. He was married to the love of his life, Mary Etta, for 54 years. He coached his daughters' ball teams, he drove the church bus, he served his country, he would show up to help anyone who had a need.
In addition to his parents Gerald is preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Tom Eller, Troy Henry, Roy Henry, Horace Henry, and Carl Henry, his sisters-in-law, Louise Henry, Brenda Henry, Phyllis Henry, and his nephew John David Eller. Expressions of sympathy may be made in whichever ways you wish. Flowers, cards, and/or memorial contributions to Area 9 Special Olympics c/o Nina Weston at Sparta YMCA are equally welcome.
Surviving family include:
Wife of over 50 years – Mary Etta Henry Usrey
Siblings – Mary Eller and Brenda Wilson-Guy
Sisters - in-law – Mary Henry, and Ruth Phifer, and Louise Henry
Brother-in-law – RV Henry
Children – Kim (Tom) Stafford, and Tammy (Andy) Thomas
Grandchildren – Annalee Stafford, Allison Thomas, Jared Stafford, and Katelyn Thomas
Special granddaughter – Chelsea Alspaugh Simmons
A host of family also survived.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Doyle Crawford and Eugene Bray officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday. May 15, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and again on Thursday May 16, 2024, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Thank you to Gentiva Hospice nurses and aides, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Dr. Herbert Duvivier, Woodspring Suites of Newnan, all of our church families, friends who've prayed, and every person the Lord sent to us to meet our needs during Gerald's illness.
