Howard Earl "Bill" Usrey
October 20, 1939 – October 21, 2024
Howard Earl "Bill" Usrey died peacefully October 22, 2024, after a brief illness, with his wife and partner, Sallie Clinton Fisher, at his side.
Bill was born to Howard Earl and Gertrude Gooden Usrey on October 20, 1939 in Fayetteville, Alabama. He had a 40 year career with Kimberly Clark Corporation and while raising a family in Childersburg, Alabama he served as a Volunteer Fireman; he was a city Councilman for twelve years and during his tenure was Police Commissioner and Liaison to the Fire Department; he also served as a Board Member of the Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union for ten years. He was a Master Mason - Member of Lodge # 293 and a member of the Zamora Shriners of Central Alabama.
In 1998, Bill found his way to Texas and met his soul mate, Sallie. He enjoyed learning about Sallie's business, and became an expert in custom art framing. He joined Sallie in all the community activities she was involved in: The Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce; serving thirteen years on the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Medical, Safety and Communications team; he joined the Tomball Police Department's Volunteer's in Policing ("VIP") program and was twice honored as Volunteer of the Year. He also trained others in the VIP program. Bill was an adult advisor of the Tomball Police Department's Young Explorers # 5451. He enjoyed being involved with the Tomball community and was always available to help those in need. Bill also was a big fan of country music and often enjoyed hearing favorite singers, including Gene Watson, at Main Street Crossing.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Charles William Usrey and Jerry Merrill Usrey; his sisters Betty Usrey Hatchett and Shirley Usrey Butler; a nephew, Steve Hammonds; and, chosen daughter Nona Ray.
Bill leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Sallie Clinton Fisher; sisters Helen Usrey Hammonds and Kay (Billy) Davis; daughter Teresa (Dwight) Hayes; chosen daughters Nancy Dumas and Marci (Jim) Breaux; chosen grandchildren April Ivy (Chris Caress), Scott Ray (Brandi Langley), Joseph Ray and Cody Dumas; chosen great grandchildren Abbie Ivy, Claire and Houston Frank, Rylan and Mason Ray; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
