Jessie Burton Usrey, of Lelia Lake Texas, passed away on October 9, 2025 In Abilene Texas.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am, October 20, 2025 at Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 am, October 20, 2025 at Hamil Family Funeral Home with Terry Brown of Hillcrest Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at VA cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Jess was born in the town of Lelia Lake Texas to Lee and Bonnie Usrey on November 14, 1942. Jess had 4 older sisters, Jo, Betty, Thelma and Vita. Jess was loved and spoiled by his sisters. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1961 and went on to graduate from West Texas State University in 1966. He was the first of his family to graduate from college. He married Ann (odom) Usrey on December 21, 1968. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 27 years. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. Jess received numerous medals throughout his career. Jess was always up for a great adventure with his family. He loved showing each generation the fun of camping out and that included cooking way too much food! He loved building and making things and most of all helping his family with any and every project dreamed up.
Jess Usrey is survived by Ann Usrey, son, Joel Bradley Usrey and wife Michelle Usrey, daughter, Julee Ann (Usrey) Masters and husband Monte Masters. Grandchildren, Jace Usrey and wife, Kathryn Usrey, Kennedy Usrey, Abbey (Masters) Nieman, and husband, Collin Nieman, Brett Masters and Chad Masters. Clara Percival, Ben Percival, and Jack Percival. Great Grandchild: Kinsley Usrey.
The family of Jess Usrey truly appreciates each of you and thank you for the overwhelming love shown to each of us.
