Geraldine (nee Phelps) Jones, 92, formerly of Chesterfield, NJ, peacefully passed away on January 21, 2025, at The Elms of Cranbury, Cranbury, NJ.Geraldine was born on June 28, 1932, to Marcus and Blanch Phelps in Jetson, Kentucky. She was the oldest of seven children.
In 1950, she married Marvin R. Jones, also from Kentucky, who was serving in the United States Air force. They traveled throughout the country from base to base for the first 5 years of their marriage.
On September 6, 1954, they had their first daughter, Sheryl Elaine Jones, who was born in San Rafael, California. Three years later, on September 19, 1957, they had their second daughter, Monica Blanche Jones, who was born in Spokane, Washington. After a brief time in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Geraldine and her family received orders to move to New Jersey where she has resided since. Geraldine was a dedicated mother who always took good care of her daughters.
Geraldine worked on McGuire A.F.B., NJ, in Non-Appropriated Funds, in varying positions for 47 years, retiring at 76 years old. She received a letter of commendation and an American flag from President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. She didn't have to work that long but she chose to work and stayed involved in many organizations – including the Masters Wives Club, where she served in varying parliamentary roles and in the Air Force Association, where she also served as president of the McGuire A.F.B. Chapter. She volunteered for many services on the base and ran a booth at the annual air show for many, many years.
Geraldine was an excellent homemaker, mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, and friend. She moved into her dream home in 1967 and loved decorating in her Queen Anne colonial style having everything just so. Although she loved to travel, her home was her favorite place to be. She was also very artistic and made beautiful ceramics, wreaths and was an accomplished seamstress, making many beautiful outfits for her daughters. Geraldine also enjoyed investing and saving and was very adept with her finances.
As a grandmother, Geraldine excelled. Her grandchildren were fiercely loved and she never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. She never missed a game, play or concert no matter the weather or how she might be feeling. When the great grandchildren came along, she was in her glory.
Geraldine was always impeccably dressed, with beautiful hair and a friendly smile. She loved her friends and family and filled her home with warmth and kindness.
We will miss her greatly.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Marvin Jones; father, Marcus Phelps; her mother, Blanch Phelps; brother, Randall Phelps; brother, Lloyd Phelps; brother, Clifford Phelps; and sister, Josephine Beyler.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Phelps (wife, Carolyn); and her brother, Daniel Phelps; her daughter, Sheryl E. Mullen (husband, Timothy); her daughter, Monica B. Lozaga (husband, Melchior); Grandchildren, Christopher Lozaga (great grandchildren Melissa, Cora, Emory); Andrew Lozaga (wife, Caitlin; great grandson Axel), Brittany Temple (great grandchildren Gavin and Madison).
