Geraldine E. Stabley, 92, better known as Geryl, a resident of Wellsboro since 1995, moved to her permanent home in Heaven on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Green Home. She was born in East Stroudsburg on November 27, 1932, daughter of the late William A. and Geraldine M. (Loney) Stabley. She is survived by her younger sister, Wilma A. Stabley of Harrisburg.

Geryl graduated from Jersey Shore High School, Class of 1950. She became a secretary for an insurance agency in Jersey Shore until 1953 when she began working for Corning Glass Works. In 1959, Geryl enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WACS), after discharge in 1963, she worked for a Christian publishing company in IL for five years, then returned east to attend college. She received a B.S. in Elementary & Early Childhood Education from Lock Haven State College in 1972, a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Temple University in 1978.

After being a secretary for 22 years, she began teaching kindergarten in the inner city of Philadelphia, preferring tots to typewriters. Another 22+ years later, she retired and moved to Wellsboro. Her sharing with children continued via teaching at Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, MOPS, and CEF.

Geryl's stint in the Army whet her appetite for travel. She visited every continent except Antarctica. After seeing all the U.S. states, Pennsylvania was still her favorite, and Wellsboro, her top town.

There will be no visitation, a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the ministry of: His Thousand Hills, 458 Phippen Rd., Wellsboro, PA 16901. Geryl's family have entrusted her arrangements to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro. To share a memory or condolence with her family, visit www.tusseymosher.com.

Geryl was the sweetest lady and such an amazing person. She was a good friend of my mother's; they were childhood friends. In December, she said that she wanted to take me to lunch; I laughed, no I should be taking you to lunch. I know she is safe at home with the Lord now.

I met Geryl when we served in the Women's Army Corps, in Heidelberg, Germany. We had alot of good times traveling in Europe. We have stayed in touch throughout the years, visiting and calling. I will miss her sweet and happy voice. I know she is happy in our Saviors loving arms. Love and condolences to her sister Wilma and family.

I was Miss Stabley's former student from Moffet elementry. Although i was her student in kindergarten. She was loved by me my family and many other families in the area. She taught in Philly. She was a great teacher and even better friend to all she knew. I was blessed to have a person like her in my life that was kind to everyone. May she rest in peace and bask in the lords divine light forever. My deepest condolences to her sister and family.

I was Geryl´s classroom aide for a few years and we shared so many wonderful moments with the kindergarten children. Outside of the classroom we shared many a meal, concerts, time at Sandy Cove, too many great times to mention. We have kept in touch over the years and I will always remember her fondly.
