Geraldine "Gerry" Valahovic, age 87, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 after an extended illness. She was born August 6, 1937, the daughter of the late Frederick J. Vickey and Kathryn M. Mikrut Vickey. She married Thomas Valahovic on May 4, 1957.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and her sister-in-law, Nancy Vickey. She is survived by her brother, Frederick "Fred" Vickey of Erie, PA; nephews, Theodore "Ted" Vickey of San Diego, CA, Timothy "Tim" Vickey of Erie, PA, and Kevin Vickey of San Diego, CA; and nieces, Colleen Kelly and husband Doug of Harrison City, PA, Margaret "Maggie" Sklar and husband Jason of Phoenixville, PA and Kathryn "Katie" Heilbronn and her husband Mike of East Brunswick, NJ. She is also survived by great nephews, Sean Kelly and Tate Sklar; and great nieces, Maeve Kelly, Sophia Sklar, Norah Heilbronn, and Lila Heilbronn. She was known affectionately to her nieces and nephews as Crazy Aunt Gerry.
Gerry was a 1956 graduate of St. Benedict Academy and worked for the Northwest Pennsylvania Cleft Palate Institute and for the Diocese of Erie. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Church and a devout Catholic volunteering at the church as a Lector, Choir Member, and Eucharistic Minister. In her free time, Gerry enjoyed her prayer group, sewing, baking, and spoiling her cat, Missy.
Friends may call at Dusckas Funeral Services, Inc., 536 West 10th Street, on Monday, November 18th, from 3 to 7 pm and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Tuesday, November 19th at 9:15 am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Church, 130 E. 4th St, Erie, PA 16507 at 10 am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Church.
