Plain City – Gil Paquet Age 82, passed away on April 25, 2022, with his family's love encircling him both near and far. He was born December 10, 1939, in Providence, Rhode Island the youngest of three to his parents Joseph and Antoinette. He married the love of his life Dorothy Imogene Driesslein on March 2, 1963, in San Antonio Texas. When his love passed in 2012, they had been married 49 years.
Gil served in the US Army, was stationed in Germany, and served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant on March 4, 1967.
Shortly after leaving the military Gil began working for United Airlines in Cleveland, Ohio and then transferred to Denver, Colorado in 1980. He worked his way up to being a Ramp Supervisor and was United Airlines, Denver Station Employee of the Year in 1992. He was the liaison between United Airlines and the company that developed and implemented the baggage system for the Denver International Airport which opened in 1995. He retired from United Airlines in 1998.
Gil loved his family, animals, and the great outdoors – especially the mountains. He built a mountain house with the help of friends and family outside of Fairplay Colorado. He volunteered his time at Ocean's Journey in Denver, Colorado and at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in northern Utah. He was honored at both places for his commitment and volunteerism. Gil raised multiple dogs through his lifetime, even training military police dogs while in the US Army. He is leaving behind his black lab, Alana, who was a part of Canine Companions for Independence an organization near and dear to his heart.
Gil is survived by his children, Jackie (Curt) Taylor; Joseph Paquet, Arizona; and Tiffany (Travis) Orozco. Gil is survived by one sister Elaine Wilson (Massachusetts). Gil is survived by his grandchildren Joseph (Lety) Paquet; Robert (Tayler) Green; Ryan (Isabella) Green; Charles (Melanie) Paquet, Illinois and three great-grandchildren Nevaeh, Joseph, and Damian. Gil is survived by his bonus grandchildren Cole (Chayla) Taylor; Jace Taylor.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday May 3, 2022, at 11am with military honors prior at 10:45am at Ascension Lutheran Church 1105 N Washington Blvd. Ogden.
Gil's service will be live streamed on Myers website www.myers-mortuary.com and can be watched by scrolling to the bottom on his obituary page.
A special thanks to Gil's son-n-law Curt for his gentle care and acts of love during his decline and this difficult time. Words cannot express the gratitude Gil's family feels.
