Glade DeVerle Wells, 88, of Corinne, Utah, returned home to his Heavenly Father on August 20, 2025, after a long, love-filled life—one built on faith, family, and a knack for making just about anything out of wood.
Born July 21, 1937, in Brigham City, Utah, to Glade Cutler Wells and Nellie Priscilla Gilson, DeVerle grew up in Promontory and Corinne. Promontory was always “home” to his heart, no matter where life took him. He graduated from Box Elder High School, and in 1955, he married the love of his life and eternal sweetheart, Beulah. Together, they shared an incredible 70 years of marriage filled with laughter, service, sawdust, and endless devotion.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, DeVerle served in bishoprics, as a branch president during a mission to the Philippines, and later in the Brigham City Temple. His life was one of quiet service to family, friends, and community.
Handy and creative, he founded WoodManor Playhouses after retiring from Hill Field in 1979 and settling in Corinne, Utah, where he crafted dream playhouses and wooden toys for children with his signature care and craftsmanship. He also helped design the Box Elder County Tourism Train, founded the Corinne Historical Society, and served as Mayor of Corinne.
Above all else, DeVerle’s greatest joy was his family. He and Beulah raised five wonderful children—Greg (Char), Jan (Alan), Kevin (Val), Wendy (K.C.), and Stacie (Colby)—who were his pride and joy. His love multiplied through 23 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, each one a cherished part of his legacy. And though he humbly played the role of “Santa’s helper” for many years, his family and community knew the truth—he was the real Santa, spreading joy, magic, and love wherever he went.
His children would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to their dear mother, grandchildren, and Hospice for their tender, loving care during Dad's final days. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to God, family, and community; a lifetime of service; playhouses that will forever stand as symbols of his creativity; and a town enriched by his passion for history.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the River Ward Chapel, 2335 N. 4000 W., Corinne. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 5:30-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment Corinne Cemetery.
