Gladys Margaret Altenbernd, 93, died on July 13, 2023, peacefully with her family on the family farm.
Gladys was born February 19, 1930, at One Road and 4 Township, Peever, SD, to Soren Leiseth and Brita Jordahl. She lived on the family farm and attended Peever High School until the death of her mother in 1947, after which she took on the role of her mother for several years. She moved to Fargo, ND and completed St. Lukes LPN training. She met Gerald Altenbernd, a farmer from Sabin, MN, and they married April 15, 1954.
Gladys spent the rest of her life on the family farm raising her seven children with Gerald. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin and was very involved in a variety of church functions. Gladys also did fund raising for Camp Courage. And if you didn’t know, she was one of the best cooks in the world.
Gladys is survived by her children Karen (Bill) Billica, Fort Collins, CO, David Altenbernd, Fargo, ND, Cindy (Terry) Highum, Lanesboro, MN, Gary (Brenda) Altenbernd, Moorhead, MN, Larry (Val) Altenbernd, Moorhead, MN, Wayne Altenbernd, Fargo, ND, and Eric (Kelly) Altenbernd, Moorhead, MN. She has 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, sister Lillian, brothers Milton, Henry, Robert (Bob), and Ronald (Ron) and her great grandchild Caleb Eide.
The family requests memorials be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley, Fargo, ND or Trinity Luther Church, Sabin MN.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 10-11 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, Sabin, MN.
