Gladys Van Wie Obituary

Born on January 5, 1927 in Stamford, NY, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Mabel (Ives) Utter. Gladys was a graduate of Stamford High School, Stamford, NY and later attended SUNY Delhi. She married Charles Van Wie, Jr. on June 1, 1947. He predeceased her on February 21, 2020.
Gladys worked as a waitress at Rambler's Rest for 37 years before her retirement, and will be remembered as a fixture for the patrons she served. She was a woman of strong faith and attended Beartown Alliance Church for a number of years. She was also actively involved with the Town of Erwin Senior Citizens group as their trip coordinator.
Gladys is survived by her daughters: Judith (Larry) Hall of Beaver Dams, NY, Patricia (Robert) Vargo of Big Flats, NY, Donna (Bud) Nudo of New Hartford, NY; grandchildren: Mark (Michelle) Hall of Grand Prairie, TX, Marsha (Gregory) Villaroman of Hobart, IN, Michael Hall of Newport, NC, Matthew (Laura) Hall of Elmira, NY, Luke (Kelley) Bunner of Syracuse, NY, Danica (Louis) Rigos of Mount Sinai, NY, Erikh Vargo of Corning, NY, Sierra (Tyler) Dunn of Deerfield, NY, Ryan Nudo of Mohawk, NY; great grandchildren: Ashley, Austin, Aimee, Aaron, Andrew and Adam Hall, Mychaela, Kyler, and Spencer Villaroman, Jacob, Emily, Abagayle, Catelynne and Kendra Hall, Jonathan, Kristle, Natalie and Noah Hall, Gabriel Bunner, Eliana, Julian and Adrian Rigos and Carmen Rizzuti; 6 great great grandchildren; brother, Robert Utter of Colorado Springs, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was predeceased by a grandson, Andrew Nudo; great granddaughter, Alexis Villaroman; brothers: Parker and Kenneth Utter; and sister, Lillian Oliver.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney Street Corning. A memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 12:00 pm, Pastor David Bretch officiating. Gladys will be buried alongside her husband at Bath National Cemetery.
