Glenn Bishop of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away at home on December 31, 2024.
Glenn was the second boy of four children, born to William Lyle Bishop and Elizabeth Ann Bishop, a family that would later grow to six children.
Glenn was an engaging boy, explaining, "I may be small, but I'm wiry!" He loved playing outdoors, weight training, wrestling, chess, war board games, and anything to do with Magic tricks, which led to his real passion: entertaining. He inherited this from his parents, who performed a magic and comedy show known as, "Billy Bishop an' Ann." Billy was known as "Bish the Magish," and Glenn would later take on that moniker.
Glenn earned his reputation as a card shark and skilled sleight of hand artist. He taught magic at Bishop's Magic Shop in Oak Park, IL, Riverside, IL, and at the original Old Chicago Magic Shop, founded by Marshall Brodien, Chicago's wizard "Wizzo" from Bozo's Circus, later jointly owned and then solely by Billy Bishop.
Glenn had a genuine appreciation for those who had preceded him, and enjoyed reading about magicians, learning from them, brainstorming and sharing ideas with them, many of whom seemed to be part of this sort of magic fraternity. This included talented peers as well. An appearance at the esteemed Magic Castle in Hollywood, a private club for The Academy of Magical Arts, was an important milestone.
An even more notable milestone occurred when Glenn met his beautiful bride, Joyce, and discovered she knew a few tricks of her own. They were married 34 years and with the kind support of his dear wife, produced 3 children whom Glenn adored as a loving Father.
As the only local family members, he and Joyce were exceptionally generous in assisting Billy and Ann and the Magic Shop. They provided further assistance along with dear friends when Billy had a stroke, which was greatly appreciated. Glenn and his brother, Jack, later assisted with moving them to Utah.
Eventually Glenn, Joyce, and the children moved to Missouri and he became a hypnotist, hosting and entertaining many overnight shows for high school venues in the area. He later explored Las Vegas, Salt Lake City (a second time), and Florida as potential locations in which to perform magic, but returned home to St. Charles.
It is with deep sorrow that we say goodbye to Glenn as he was loved dearly and will be missed.
Glenn was born December 20, 1956, in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. He was survived by Joyce Bishop, Children - Sara Bishop, Sean Bishop, Jarod Bishop, Siblings - Tracey (Eric Knight) Bishop, Susan Bishop, Jack (Lorina) Bishop, and Bonnie (Wayne) Gordon. He was a Nephew, Cousin, Brother-In-Law, Uncle, Great-Uncle, and Friend to many.
Glenn was preceded in death by his Parents - William and Elizabeth Bishop, and Brother - Grant Bishop.
A memorial service to be announced.
