Glenn Arthur Bjorkman, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025 at age 86. He was born January 4, 1939 in Chicago, IL to Arthur & Grace Bjorkman.
Glenn's passing was preceded by his mother Grace, his father Art and his stepmother Adaline Bjorkman. He is survived by his brother Alan (Jan) Bjorkman of Wisconsin, his sister Mary Ellen Bjorkman of Wisconsin, his son Timothy Bjorkman of Colorado and his grandchildren Kayla and Trent Bjorkman of Colorado
Glenn was an active member of the Hinsdale community and an active member of the Hinsdale Evangelical Covenant Church his entire life. He enjoyed and supported the Central Conference Camping program of the Evangelical Covenant Church spending time with family and friends at Covenant Harbor and Covenant Point.
Glenn graduated from Hinsdale Central High School, attended the University of Chicago, and graduated from North Park College with a degree in Mathematics. Glenn continued to support North Park after graduating and for the rest of his life.
Glenn entered the US Army in 1961 where he served in the Army Security Agency. Glenn transferred to the US Army Reserves in 1962 and was honorably discharged from military service in 1967.
After his active duty service in the Army, Glenn started a career alongside his father Arthur and uncle Carl in the family businesses Victor Sports, Inc. and Victor Surgical Gut Manufacturing where they made surgical sutures, tennis strings, strings for musical instruments, and distributed T.A. Davis tennis racquets. He remained with the company until its closing in 1986. He continued to actively collect tennis racquets and tennis paraphernalia.
Glenn enjoyed spending time on the beach with family, hunting pheasant with extended family in South Dakota, making people cringe with corny yet "church appropriate" jokes, and wearing terribly audacious holiday ties.
As an animal lover, Glenn adored his pets. Most notably his tabby cat Thor whom he rescued and adopted through the Hinsdale Humane Society where Glenn regularly volunteered for many years.
One of Glenn's other collecting hobbies was "everything related to trains" including building and maintaining extensive O Gauge and Z Gauge collections. Many of his vacations revolved around exotic train excursions.
Glenn enjoyed both alpine snow skiing and water skiing. He, and his family tried their best to wear out the surface of Lake Michigan with their slalom skiing habit. Thankfully the lake is still skiable for those who come next. Glenn introduced his son to the Rocky Mountains in 1985 with their first family Colorado ski trip to Winter Park / Mary Jane where the family still skis today.
One of Glenn's most cherished memories was of his first fishing trip with his father Art to Devil's Gap Lodge on Lake of the Woods in Canada accessible only by boat. To him, that trip to Canada represented the essence of combining relaxation with family High-Adventure in the Northwoods.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Hinsdale Covenant Church, 412 S. Garfield Ave., Hinsdale, IL 60521. A private burial will be held at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook, IL.
