AIKEN, SC - Glenn Wilson Hammer, 77, laid down his working tools on August 17th, 2023 and passed away at Aiken Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Glenn was born to the late Glenn Wilson Hammer Sr. and Cleo Moss Hammer on March 14th, 1946 in Weston, West Virginia where he grew up. Glenn married his soulmate, Patricia Leslie Goe Hammer, on October 21st, 1966 who survives. He is also survived by his two children, Michael Chance Hammer of Daniel Island, South Carolina (along with wife Katherine Hammer) and Stephen Todd Hammer of Fort Myers, Florida, five grandchildren, Greyson Chance Hammer, William (Liam) Glenn Hammer, Nicholas Charles Castrignano, Charlotte Nora Hannah Hammer, and Logan Rhys Armand Hammer, the latter two in womb yet to be born. Additionally, he had one sister, the late Glenda Sue Hammer Hyre and husband John Hyre, nephew, Brad Hyre as well as nieces Susan Hyre Moody and Kerri Hyre Kiser.
Glenn was accomplished in so many ways. He graduated from the West Virginia University Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1969 and would later become Vice President of Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety at Ashland Incorporated where he worked for 34 years. He was a self taught fly fisherman and loved to hunt quail. He enjoyed golf and had competed at a collegiate level. He had superb eye hand coordination and depth perception allowing him to not only excel at golf, but also at billiards and even ping pong. He loved his wife dearly who he started dating in the 7th grade. The couple lived a full life together up until the very end and they were a superlative of what a union before God should be. He loved T&L hot dogs, raw oysters, animals including his most recent dog Belle and deceased cats Spritz and Sjogren, outdoor camping and hunting trips, books (particularly history), and The Ohio State Buckeyes football team just to name a few. He became a grandfather later in life and absolutely adored the time he spent with Greyson, Liam, and Nicholas while he was also looking forward to the arrival of two future additions, Logan and Charlotte. Most importantly he was a Christian who lived a life of integrity.
Glenn’s legacy will be shared with Glenn’s grandchildren by their father, Chance and uncle Todd until their dying days and to anyone else who will listen; a small town boy from West Virginia who was raised by what he described as two loving parents, Glenn Sr and Cleo. He accomplished the American Dream starting with Lewis County High School where he met his future wife Patricia and would go on to achieve enormous professional success while still maintaining a healthy work life balance. He had the right people around him in life, which he always emphasized was so important to do. He was a self made man, but his wife and parents (and relationship with Jesus Christ, his Savior) allowed him to fly to enormous heights.
He is now with the Lord in Heaven.
John 14:1-3
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
A memorial will be held at a later date in Weston, West Virginia. There will be no funeral service.

Patricia, you know how very sad I am for you and the whole family with losing Glenn. I so remember those early days when you both had crushes on each other. Then you became a couple and from then on you were inseparable. You´ve had a lifetime of adventures and are the perfect example of two people devoted to each other. And what a beautiful family you have made. I just can´t imagine what you´re experiencing, but just know that there are so many people sending thoughts and prayers your way. You know my heart is with you and just a phone call away if you ever need me for anything. Stay strong and I know your grandchildren will keep you busy. You´re such a great grandmother! Love you

Glenn was true giant among the Ashland senior management team. He was always kind, insightful, supportive and a great motivator. Glenn truly walked with the Holy Spirit in his heart. I'm so thankful for the years I had under Glenn's tutelage. One of my fondest personal memories is playing golf with Glenn at York Golf Club. He had an eagle on a particularly brutal par 5, just missing a two by only six inches!! Amazing eyes hand coordination!
I'm happy to know that Glenn is with Jesus now and singing praises in heaven. No more tears....
With all my brotherly love and affection,
Mike/"Fro"
