Glenn Anthony Singleton Sr

Glenn Anthony Singleton, Sr., 73 was born on October 1, 1952, and departed this life on December 30, 2025, after a heroic battle with cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Ama, LA, and was the fourth of six children born to the late Mary Allen and Norman Singleton Sr. Glenn was widely known as "Tojo," "Weed Hooper," to some family and friends, and "Tony The Tiger" to his Ochsner Medical Care team and staff. Glenn's spiritual journey began on June 26, 1966, at the age of 15, when he joined St. Mark Catholic Church in Ama, where he began serving as an altar acolyte. His participation was particularly noteworthy, as he was among a pioneering group of five African American youths to assume this role at a time when such representation was uncommon, thereby making a notable impact. He diligently continued this service throughout his high school tenure. Additionally, Glenn's profound commitment to his faith is further exemplified by his dedication of 19 years of service as a volunteer at the St. Mark Catholic Church Adoration Chapel, where he devoted his Saturdays to meditate and pray for the sick and needy. After graduating from Hahnville High School in 1972, Glenn worked as a courier for the Bank of New Orleans for many years. Additionally, Glenn worked for the St. Charles Parish Recreation Department as a ground's keeper, before retiring at the age of 67 from Railcrew Xpress in Avondale, LA as a transportation driver. Beyond his work life, Glenn cultivated a vibrant array of passions. He was a dedicated basketball and baseball coach for St Charles Parish Booster Club, an author of the book, "Crossing Over: A Tribute to Don Raymond," and a well-known boxing enthusiast. His profound admiration for boxing took root when he encountered the iconic Muhammad Ali on September 15, 1978, at the New Orleans Superdome during the historic boxing match where Ali challenged Leon Spinks. During Ali's tenure in New Orleans, Tojo was personally invited by Muhammad Ali to join his entourage during his training sessions. This unimaginable encounter opened many doors for countless experiences that were not merely achieved but remarkably transcended. Glenn was not only granted the extraordinary privilege of meeting Ali himself but also forged a meaningful and lasting bond that evolved into a cherished friendship with the entire Ali family. Muhammad Ali recognized Glenn for his fervent devotion and personally referred to him as Muhammad Ali's Best Fan. Glenn's sincere love for life, family, and friends created an enduring legacy that will be treasured by all whose lives he touched. He is survived by the love of his life, Angeline Martindale Singleton, the beloved wife of 52 years, with whom he built a beautiful family. His memory will be cherished by his devoted children: Glenn Singleton, Jr., Javon Singleton (Jessula), Mark Singleton, Sr. (Ashley), Rayvon Singleton, Jaren Singleton, and his baby and only daughter, Precious Singleton-Alexander (Mario). A proud grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his loving siblings: Norman Singleton Jr. (Loretta), Brian Singleton Sr. (Hilda), and Gilda S. Woods. Glenn's journey to eternal peace marks a cherished reunion with those beloved family members who passed on before him. He is now reunited in eternal rest with his esteemed parents, Norman Singleton Sr., Mary Allen Singleton; two devoted brothers, James Herman Singleton, Sr. and Larry Charles Singleton, Sr., and his revered Godfather, Malcolm Triche, Sr. Glenn leaves behind a long-lasting legacy that will impact many lives for years to come.
