1953–2025
Dr. Gregory Landis, 72, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2025.
Born on April 21, 1953, in Kirksville, Missouri, Gregory was the eldest child of Dr. Martin and
Nancy Landis.
Dr. Landis dedicated his life's work to the practice of medicine. A board-certified
cardiothoracic, vascular, and general surgeon, he completed his training at Grandview Hospital
in Dayton, Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids, and Ingham Medical Center in Lansing. In
1994, he co-founded a new cardiac surgical program at Sparrow Hospital, helping expand
access to advanced heart care in the region. He served as Chairman of the Board for Mid
Michigan Physicians for five years and later as a board member for Genesis Surgery Center. In
2007, he founded Total Vein Care Clinic and North44 Medspa as a solo practice, where he
became the first in mid-Michigan to perform endovenous laser ablation of the greater
saphenous vein. He also gave back to his community beyond medicine, serving two years on
the Duncan Bay Boat Club board.
Earlier in his career, from 1984 to 1992, Dr. Landis worked as an emergency room physician in
Michigan and Ohio, and previously operated heart and lung machines as a Circulation
Technologist at The Ohio State University Hospitals. In 1975, he began his professional journey
as a general science teacher and head coach of the 9th-grade track team in Lancaster, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Nancy; his brother, Jeffrey; and his
daughter, Cami. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Debra; his children, Drew, Christopher,
Robert, and Dana; nine grandchildren; and his sister, Emily.
An avid boater, Greg loved navigating the Great Lakes with his family. His warmth, generosity,
and unwavering kindness left a mark on all who knew him.
A celebration of life in honor of Dr. Landis will be held on Thursday, October 23rd, from 4:00–
6:00 p.m. at Dusty's Cellar in Okemos, Michigan. Friends, colleagues, and loved ones are
invited to join the family for wine, hors d'oeuvres, and shared memories in a place that held
special meaning for Greg and Debra. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Capital Area
Humane Society in memory of Dr. Landis and his beloved cat, Neo, who was adopted from the
