Guy Eugene Dempsey, age 70, passed away July 22, 2025, at Floyd Medical Center, following a brief illness. Guy was born on January 14, 1955 to parents Charlie Erastus Dempsey and Dorothy Coker Dempsey.
He is survived by Cynthia Dover Dempsey, his wife of 51 years; two sons: Blake Dempsey (Marisa) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Neill Dempsey (Samantha) of Armuchee, Georgia; five grandchildren: Coleston, Rylen, Beretta, Anna Carson, and Benelli; one sister: Nancy Guyton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Guy spent his career in retail management, mostly with Kroger in Cartersville and other metro-Atlanta locations. While at the Cartersville Kroger, he was very active with the Salvation Army, serving on their board of directors for several years. He graduated salutatorian (second only to his future wife!) from Cass High School in 1973. Guy was very active in the local church, serving as a deacon and choir member for many years at Peeples Valley Baptist, before moving to Atco Baptist Church, and then to New Town Baptist Church, until his passing. Guy and Cindy made their home in Cassville for many years before moving to Calhoun in 2018. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, collecting diecast cars (especially Hess trucks!), and all the local meat and threes! Guy loved to travel to Florida and to the Gatlinburg area for annual vacations.
A memorial service will be held at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville, Georgia, on Friday, July 25 at 1pm, preceded by visitation at 11am. Interment to follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family is served by Sosebee Funeral Home in Canton, GA. Pallbearers will be Neill Dempsey, Casey Guyton, Coleston Dempsey, Rylen Dempsey, Jeff Rogers, and Will Stewart.
The family would like to thank the staff at Floyd Medical Center for providing excellent care.
