Gwen Louise VanderGalien, age 67 of Waupun, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, WI.
Gwen was born on October 13, 1957, in Waupun daughter of Lauren and Evelyn (Voskuil) Schaumberg. She was a graduate of Oakfield High School, Class of 1976. Gwen was united in marriage to David VanderGalien on August 28, 1993. Gwen was a fun-loving woman who touched the lives of many around her. She dedicated many years of her life to serving others as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), making a significant impact on those she cared for. Alongside her career in healthcare, she also enjoyed her role as a cook at the local diners, where she brought joy to many. Her personality was bright and warm, and she cherished spending time with her family. Among her favorite moments were lunches spent with her special friend, Pauline.
Gwen was passionate about the western lifestyle, enjoying rodeos and horseback riding. She loved the great outdoors, often going camping and taking pontoon rides. In her later years, she treasured time spent at the cabin in Minocqua with her significant other, Lester Buchholz. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Gwen is survived by her daughter, Dawn VanderGalien; Grandson, Tyler (Karmen) VanderGalien, granddaughter, Makiya VanderGalien and great grandson, Hunter VanderGalien; six siblings, Terriann Orr, Allen (Tami) Schaumberg, Luann (Dennis Lacey) Benedict, Dale (Jane) Schaumberg, Patti (Eugene) Pucker and Jodi (Owen) Kreuziger; Aunt, Phyllis (Doug) Prellwitz and fur baby companion, Charlie; further survived by many special nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband David VanderGalien in 2008 and significant other Lester Buchholz in 2024; daughter Kim VanderGalien; sister, Lisa and niece Alyssa; parents and grandparents.
Visitation for Gwen will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Kohls Community Funeral Home 405 West Main Street, Waupun.
A funeral service for Gwen will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Kohls Funeral Home with Pastor Traci Mass officiating. Burial will take place at Rogersville Cemetery.
