Harold Kirk Blymyer

It is with tender hearts that we announce the death of Harold Kirk Blymyer, who passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, in St. George, Utah, with his wife by his side holding his hand. He was born on March 17, 1945 to Harold Ellis and Elva Eisenlord Blymyer while they were stationed away from home in San Angelo, Texas.

Shortly after his birth, his family returned to Midland, Michigan, where Kirk spent most of his growing-up years. He attended Midland High School, where he competed on the swim and track teams, and after a year of college, he enlisted with the United States Navy.

Kirk was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and, after his active-duty service, had a long career working in logistics for the military as well. He was affectionately known by colleagues as “Captain Kirk.”

In 1966, after his military service, Kirk moved to Newberry Springs, California, where he met the love of his life – Jeanette Marie Allen. Thanks to the scheming and coercion of family and friends, there was no time lost before the couple had been kidnapped and whisked away for a Vegas Wedding. Later, while Jan was 6 months pregnant with their first child, their union was blessed by the Catholic Church.

The pride and joy of Kirk’s life was his family. Kirk and Jan moved from Newberry, to Barstow, and eventually settled in Sacramento, California where they raised their 5 children. Kirk was a jack of all trades – he could do anything! He loved taking his kids fishing, tending to his garden, and he had the creative spark of an artist. He loved to paint and create stone monuments.

Kirk will be remembered most for his unwavering faith in God, and his service to both the church and the community. Hand-in-hand with his wife, Kirk volunteered his time and energy to the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Sacramento, working in the thrift stores, bringing meals to the less fortunate, and delivering communion to those who were home-bound. Kirk was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and would help with the church’s festivals, where he and Jan were famous for their wine booth.

Kirk had a few health scares later in life due to COPD and fought hard through each so that he could be around for his family. His most recent encounter was exasperated with a bad flu virus. Even while weakened from the battle with ill-health, he was a light to those around him, giving the Priest who came to minister to him a big thumbs-up. The hole left in our hearts as God welcomed Kirk home will be near impossible to fill, but we know that he will be watching over us from heaven. If we could pass on one last message from his kids, it’s this: “WE LOVE YOU DAD!” He is so loved, and so missed.

Kirk is survived by his wife, Jeanette Marie; his five children: Kimberley, James, Anthony, Jason, and Kristina; fourteen grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way). He is also survived by his brother Lawrence Blymyer (Krystal), and his sister-in-law Priscilla (Pennie) MacDonald.

A private family viewing was held on January 8, 2025, at Spilsbury Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 11:00 am at the St. George Catholic Church. 259 W 200 N, St. George, Utah 84770, with Interment and Military Honors following at the Ivins Cemetery
