Harold Denver Matney

Harold D. Matney, aged 93, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, in Yorktown, Virginia. Born on December 5, 1931, in Oakwood, Virginia, Harold lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his faith, and his country.
Harold proudly served his nation as an engineer for the Department of Defense on the civilian side, where he applied his keen intellect and steadfast work ethic to projects that were vital to national interests. His career was complemented by his earlier service in the United States Air Force, reflecting a lifelong commitment to the defense and betterment of his country.
A graduate of Virginia Tech, Harold held a bachelor's degree that laid the groundwork for his distinguished career. He was also a follower of the Baptist church, which provided him with spiritual guidance throughout his life.
Beyond his professional achievements, Harold was a man of varied interests and deep passions. He found great joy in sailing and cherished the times he spent on the water. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Montgomery Matney, and his beloved first wife Mervis Matney, and beloved second wife Nell Matney. He is survived by his loving children, Denver and Laura, who carry forward his legacy of love, integrity, and devotion.
