Harold H. McCarthy of Salinas, California, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the age of 86. Harold (Hal) was born on April 25, 1938, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Hugh and Juno McCarthy. He grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended De La Salle High School and the University of Minnesota. He was predeceased by his older brothers John and James, and his daughters Susan and Anne. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret and their daughter Nancy, his son-in-law Brian Hartmeier and four grandchildren: Katie, Matthew, Paul, and Joseph Hartmeier; his youngest brother Paul McCarthy; nephew Tim McCarthy, and nieces Maureen McCarthy Behrens, Eileen McCarthy Harness, and their families. Hal worked for many years as a certified court reporter for Monterey County Superior Court. He is fondly remembered for his quick wit, musical talents, love of reading, sports, crossword puzzles and chocolate. And, most dearly, his kind and gentle heart.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. followed by a Prayer Service from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
Funeral Mass will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 15 Railroad Avenue, Spreckels, CA 93962 followed by a luncheon reception in the church social hall.
Burial service will be held at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Coast VNA & Hospice, 45 Plaza Circle, Salinas, CA 93901 https://ccvna.com/donate or a favorite charity of your choice.
